From an audio file to a musical gesture

Sample Kit Maker is the preparation step between a sound idea and an instrument in the JolyMusic Sample engine. It preserves the source and describes which regions are playable, where they sit in MIDI, how velocity behaves, and how they are triggered.

Prepare the source before mapping it

  1. Record or import a source.
  2. Keep the strongest regions and verify their boundaries.
  3. Define the note, velocity range and trigger for each element.
  4. Save the audio and draft together.

From source audio to a playable sampler

Preserve the original recording

Record a take or import a file. The source is kept as an audio asset in your media library; the draft records how its excerpts should be played.

Define playable regions and MIDI notes

Smart Slice All proposes regions from transients and beats. Check each boundary, remove weak regions, and assign every element a note, name, and velocity range.

Set velocity and trigger behavior

The mapping is a playback contract: a MIDI note selects an element, its boundaries define the excerpt, and velocity expresses the intended response of the preset.

Play every region across its useful range

  • Start with one take. Keep three to eight strong regions, test them from a keyboard, correct the triggers, and save a clearly named draft.
